Goa’s Diarrhoea Awareness Drive: Educating, Treating, and Preventing

Diarrhoea remains one of the top causes of under-5 mortality in India, but in Goa, prevention is catching up with policy.

Under the direction of Health Minister Vishwajit Rane, the Goa government has launched a state-wide Diarrhoea Awareness Campaign aimed at rural hygiene, hydration, and early treatment.

·        ORS + Zinc distribution through Anganwadis and schools.

·        Handwashing workshops for parents and children.

·        Awareness drives on contaminated water dangers.

·        Mobile health units deployed in vulnerable blocks.

Outcome:

·        85% of rural Anganwadis participated.

·        Over 1.2 lakh ORS sachets distributed in 3 weeks.

·        Training conducted for 1,000+ frontline workers.

This campaign blends education with early action, proving that even the most common illnesses can be defeated through awareness.
