Vishwajit Rane Inaugurates Ponda Municipal Council Administrative Building and Lays Foundation for Riverfront Development

 

Goa’s Urban Development Minister, Shri Vishwajit P. Rane, spearheaded a major urban development initiative in Ponda today by inaugurating the new Administrative Building of the Ponda Municipal Council and laying the foundation stone for the Ponda Riverfront Development project, alongside the construction of the New Palika Bazar (Sy.No. 168/1) under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) 2023–24 scheme.

The event marks a significant milestone in Goa’s commitment to enhancing urban infrastructure, creating public spaces, and improving civic amenities across the state. 

New Administrative Building to Strengthen Civic Infrastructure of Goa

The inauguration of the new Administrative Building of Ponda Municipal Council is expected to streamline administrative operations and provide improved facilities for municipal staff and citizens. Designed with modern architecture and sustainability in mind, the building reflects the government’s emphasis on efficient urban management and accessible public services.

Vishwajit Rane highlighted that the upgraded municipal facilities are part of the broader vision to transform Ponda into a model town with enhanced civic amenities, improved governance, and better service delivery for residents.

Ponda Riverfront Development: Enhancing Public Spaces and Tourism Potential

The Ponda Riverfront Development project, located near the municipal council, aims to rejuvenate the river area and create a sustainable, environmentally friendly public space. The project is designed to incorporate walkways, seating areas, landscaping, and recreational zones, making it a vibrant destination for locals and tourists alike.

Under the SASCI 2023–24 scheme, the Riverfront Development will not only improve urban aesthetics but also enhance flood management, preserve ecological balance, and boost local tourism, contributing to the economic growth of the region.

New Palika Bazar: Modernizing Market Infrastructure

In addition to the riverfront project, the foundation stone was laid for the New Palika Bazar (Sy.No. 168/1), which will provide a modern marketplace for traders and residents. The new facility is expected to improve trading conditions, enhance hygiene standards, and offer better amenities for both vendors and shoppers.

Shri Vishwajit Rane emphasized that projects like the Palika Bazar are crucial for promoting local commerce, strengthening the town’s economic base, and ensuring the smooth functioning of urban markets in a modern, well-planned environment.

Speaking at the event, Shri Vishwajit Rane underlined the government’s focus on sustainable urban development, stressing the importance of creating spaces that are not only functional but also environmentally responsible. “The Ponda Municipal Council building, riverfront, and new Palika Bazar will serve as benchmarks for urban development across Goa, demonstrating how infrastructure can be both citizen-centric and sustainable,” he said.
