New Urban Ayushman Arogya Mandir Opens in Margao: Vishwajit Rane Leads Healthcare Push


 Goa has taken another major step toward accessible and community-focused public health with the inauguration of the Urban Ayushman Arogya Mandir (UAAM) at Malbhat, Margao. The facility was launched under the leadership of Health Minister Vishwajit Rane, marking a significant milestone in the State’s ongoing efforts to shift healthcare from treatment-based models to preventive and early-diagnostic systems.

The Urban Ayushman Arogya Mandir initiative forms an essential part of Goa’s broader healthcare transformation agenda. With these centres being set up in key localities, the government aims to bring medical assistance closer to residential clusters, ensuring timely care for citizens, especially those who rely on public health infrastructure.


A New Model Focused on Early Diagnosis and Prevention

Unlike traditional clinics that majorly address illness after it occurs, the Urban Ayushman Arogya Mandir focuses on early identification of health risks. Regular consultations, screenings, and wellness programs are part of the centre’s core services. This preventive model is expected to reduce the burden of advanced diseases and lower the pressure on district-level hospitals.

According to Vishwajit Rane, prevention-driven healthcare saves both lives and resources. By providing medical attention at a local level, the government aims to ensure that smaller health concerns do not escalate into serious conditions.


Primary Healthcare Services Within Community Reach

The Malbhat UAAM will be equipped to provide essential medical care including routine check-ups, consultations, diabetes and hypertension screening, maternal and child health support, basic diagnostics, and awareness programmes. Residents no longer need to depend solely on major hospitals for routine medical issues.

The centre also plays an important role in creating awareness regarding lifestyle-related ailments, nutrition, sanitation, and hygiene. These measures are expected to enhance the overall health profile of local communities.

Reducing Hospital Crowding and Improving Access

A frequent challenge faced by government hospitals is overcrowding caused by patients visiting for minor illnesses that can be resolved at primary care centres. With the launch of the Malbhat UAAM, the government aims to provide an accessible alternative within residential areas.

Health Minister Vishwajit Rane stated that strengthening local healthcare will make the entire system more efficient. When citizens receive immediate care near their homes, hospitals can focus more effectively on advanced cases and emergency medical requirements.

Community-Based Healthcare for Long-Term Public Benefit

Beyond treatment and screening, the Urban Ayushman Arogya Mandir will also engage in community outreach and awareness programs. Public participation, regular monitoring, and preventive health behaviour are part of the long-term vision.

Health Minister Vishwajit Rane has emphasised that accessible healthcare is a fundamental right and not a privilege. Establishing UAAMs is a step toward ensuring that every citizen, regardless of economic background, has access to timely and reliable health services.
