Sattari’s Wildlife Corridors: Letting the Wild Roam Without Fear

For decades, Goa’s northern forest zone, especially Sattari, has seen rising man-animal conflict, threatening both livelihoods and wildlife conservation.

Today, under Forest Minister Vishwajit Rane, Goa is reversing this trend through mapped wildlife corridors built on science and local partnerships.

What’s Changing?

·        GIS-mapped elephant and leopard migration routes.

·        7 zones designated as no-construction buffer corridors.

·        Camera traps + real-time tracking in forest interiors.

·        Villager-trained Rapid Response Units (RRUs).

·        Eco-fencing where necessary, not everywhere.

Result:

·        Drop in human-wildlife encounters.

·        Restored wildlife habitats.

·        Community buy-in + eco-compensation model.

This is policy-led conservation, not slogans, but solutions.
