Cooch Behar Trophy 2025-26: Goa U19 Crush Chhattisgarh by Innings and 13 Runs in Season Opener

Goa Under-19 commenced their Cooch Behar Trophy campaign with a dominant display, defeating hosts Chhattisgarh by an innings and 13 runs at the Sector 10 BSP Ground, Bhilai. The match concluded well inside three days, underlining Goa’s superiority across all departments.

First Innings Dominance

After electing to field, Goa restricted Chhattisgarh to 170. In response, the visitors posted a formidable 389 for 9 declared, built around captain Yash Kasvankar’s magnificent unbeaten 243. Kasvankar’s innings, which lasted the entire Goa innings, was studded with resolute partnerships, particularly in the lower order. Notably, he declared on the second morning while seven runs short of a personal 250, prioritising the team’s strategic position over an individual landmark.

Second Innings Collapse

Required to score 220 merely to make Goa bat again, Chhattisgarh lost early wickets and never recovered. A 73-run partnership for the third wicket between Yash Kumar Varda (46) and Shivam Yadav provided brief resistance, while captain Vikalp Tiwari and Vedansh Khedia added 75 for the sixth wicket. However, once that stand was broken by a run-out, the innings folded quickly. Kasvankar returned to claim 5 for 40, ably supported by Shiven Borkar (3 wickets) and Chigurupati Venkata (1). Chhattisgarh were all out for 206 in 78.4 overs.

Result and Points

The innings victory earned Goa the maximum seven points, including the bonus point awarded for winning by an innings margin.

Player of the Match: Yash Kasvankar (Goa) 243* and 5/40.

Upcoming Fixture

Goa will look to maintain this momentum when they take on Assam in their next Group fixture from November 23 to 26 at the Panjim Gymkhana Ground, Panjim.
